2018 Dem-o-que and Supreme Court Round-up (RSVP Required)

WHAT: DPOE is having our Dem-o-que and Supreme Court Round-up event on June 3, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

ENJOY: Eat a fabulous dinner created just for us by an award winning barbecue chef who is donating his talents to support DPOE.

LISTEN AND LEARN: Colleen Connell, the Executive Director of the ACLU will provide analysis about the Supreme Court cases that will have come down.

WHERE: Naturally, barbecue is best served outdoors! Dem-o-que will be held in a tent at 2215 Central Park Ave in Evanston.

DETAILS: The term is full of ideologically divisive cases that could turn on a single vote: worker class-action lawsuits, political gerrymandering of election districts, whether gay rights must yield to business owners’ religious beliefs, as well as the fight over mandatory union fees paid by government workers! To name just a few.

RBG WOW FACTOR: The term "will be momentous," Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg predicted back in September at a speech at Georgetown University Law Center.  Many are worried that it will be a conservative rout, given President Donald Trump’s selection of Gorsuch to fill what ended up being a 14-month vacancy.

FYI: You may recall that Gorsuch took a seat the Democrats had tried to fill with Judge Merrick Garland, President Barack Obama’s nominee who never got a vote in the Republican-controlled Senate. Since he was confirmed in April, Gorsuch has aligned himself with the court’s conservative wing.

RSVP: Individuals are $60.  Why not bring along a spouse or friend (or both!) Couples are $100.  Please respond by May 30.  Sign up here:
